Continuing with our Partners in Property series, we recently chatted to Kenny Ouyang, an Account Manager at Knight Frank, who is positioned closely with our International and New Homes team at Knight Frank Interiors. Kenny plays a vital role in building relationships with Chinese investors, ensuring their confidence in us for the furnishing of their London properties while they're overseas.

 
 

To start off with, what has been your highlight of the summer?

My highlight of this summer would have to be the people I have surrounded myself with. I have met a lot of new people this summer both through work and in my personal life. They are all very lovely!

 

Explain to our readers your positioning between Knight Frank and Knight Frank Interiors?

My role as an account manager at Knight Frank is to look after and be a dedicated point of contact for all of our Chinese investors, advising them on the local market and helping them with the letting and completion of their properties. As part of that I work with my clients and our wider team at Knight Frank Interiors to match them with the best suited furnishing service; either to boost their property for the lettings market or create that complete turn-key solution for themselves so they can move right into their new home with no stress.

An example of this collaboration was my hosting of an investor seminar in China in May, informing prospective clients of the services available to them at Knight Frank and Knight Frank Interiors, as well as sharing an update on the market.

 
 
 

You moved to London from China 6 years ago, what do you still miss from home, and why?

The food and the convenience for sure. Chinese food is always the best and my absolute favourite. China is also just so advanced in terms of their technology, almost everything can be done digitally, making it a really smooth and exciting place to be.

 

There are so many new property developments emerging, how do you make sure your client’s properties stand out from the crowd in such a competitive environment?

First, it is important to have a good agent representing you. If it’s the same listing, tenants are more likely to rent with a reputable agent than an unknown one because they know a big agent is more organised and compliant. Knight Frank is a globally well-known brand that will attract the best tenants for you.

Second, furnish your property to a high standard, especially important for new builds. There are a huge number of units completing at the same time and investing in high quality furniture can really help your unit standout from the crowd. This also links back to my first point; tenants are more like to rent your unit if they know it’s furnished by a reputable brand, Knight Frank Interiors.

 
 
 

If you could live anywhere in London where would that be and why?

I am looking to move to Colindale, I have been to that area few times and I really like the environment and the sense of community there.

 

What qualities do you believe are essential for someone working in international lettings and completions at Knight Frank?

Be responsive, collaborative, and offer excellent customer service.

 

Finally, what are you looking forward to in the next few months, do you have any more trips coming up?

Yes, we are planning to visit China and Asia again later this year. We have a large number of properties with completions coming at Q1 and Q2 next year. It makes such a difference, engaging with our customers in person and providing that human element, which is so important in helping them to build their trust with us.
